Great faces for summer

I love makeup but I don’t like wearing it all of the time. If I’m sticking close to home or just running busy errands, I’d rather go out with just a touch of mascara and maybe some undereye concealer. I like to give my skin a break from the full face I wear during the week. This is one reason it’s really important for me to get the tanner right on my face. I want to look naturally sun-kissed and healthy without having to forego my all-important spf moisturizer!
Here are my tips for getting a great looking sunless tan on your face:
- Start with a clean slate. Before you apply your sunless tanner, gently exfoliate your face. When I say gentle, I mean it! The skin on your face is more delicate than anywhere else so be kind to it. I like the tips over at Glamourgirlz.com because they’re clear and easy to follow. Regular deep cleaning through exfoliating will give you a beautiful, clean and smooth palette.
- Avoid alpha hydrox (AHA) lotions. Not forever, just before you apply your tanner. If you use AHA lotions just before you tan, your tan will come off your face more quickly. I wait eight hours after tanning before I apply an AHA.
- Don’t miss spots. If you have short hair or are wearing it back, remember to get behind your ears and on the back of your neck. Also pull your hair straight back so you don’t miss your hairline. Nothing looks worse than a splotchy, sloppy tan.
- Emphasize your color. If you’re not used to being a bronze goddess you might need to work on your make-up color palette a little bit. When I first started sunless tanning, I found out that my favorite shade of lipstick just looked lousy. The Makeup and Beauty Blog shows how the 2008 Chanel collection can bring out your glow with terrific and tantalizing pictures of the colors.
